About event Logo 3rd European Catholic Social Days
About event

This gathering of Catholics committed to the social apostolate of the Church from across our continent provides a unique opportunity for the Church to reflect on its mission to and in contemporary society.

Bishops, clergy and lay people of all ages will come together from all over Europe to address and discuss the major issues of concern to the Church as she considers how best to meet the “joys and hopes, fears and aspirations” of men and women of good will in today’s world.

Pope Francis has brought a fresh and challenging perspective to many of the issues at the heart of contemporary Europe’s search for identity and to the questions which inform political debate at every level. This concerns both the entire European continent, the countries of the European Union and the European Union as such, particularly challenged after the election of last May. A huge opportunity is presented to the Church to contribute to reflection on the profile of Europe into the future.

We see the Social Days as a particularly significant moment in this cycle of reflection. We wish to connect the debate about Europe with the Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church.

Organizers

The Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Union (COMECE), is the association of Catholic Church episcopal conferences in member states of the European Union which officially represents those episcopal conferences at EU institutions.

The Council of the Bishops' Conferences of Europe (Latin: Consilium Conferentiarum Episcoporum Europae) (CCEE) is a conference of the presidents of the 33 Roman Catholic episcopal conferences of Europe, the Archbishop of Luxembourg, the Archbishop of Monaco, Maronite Catholic Archeparch of Cyprus, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Chişinău, the Ruthenian Catholic Eparch of Mukacheve, and the Apostolic Administrator of Estonia.

The Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development was established by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, with the Apostolic Letter of August 17, 2016, in a new Motu Proprio, Humanam Progressionem. Since 1st of January 2017, the Dicastery has been created merging the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People, and the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers. The Dicastery includes the Commission for Charity, the Commission for Ecology and the Commission for Health Care Workers, each operating according to its norms.

The Slovak Bishops' Conference, established by the Apostolic See in 1993, is an assembly of the bishops of the Slovak Republic, who together carry out certain pastoral tasks for the faithful of their territory, in order to increase the good which the Church offers to the people, in particular by forms and ways of apostolate, suitably adapted to the circumstances of the time and place, according to the norm of the law.

The “Romaňi kereka” (Roma Wheel) program, performed by the “Čiriklore” folklore ensemble, was created in honour of Roma artists working in Slovakia and nearby Central European countries. It depicts fragments from the life of a multi-generational Roma family of nomadic artists and is also a beautiful celebration of authentic Christianity. Most of the dances premiered at the Luník IX site, on the occasion of Holy Father's meeting with the Roma, September 14, 2021. ROMAŇI KEREKA is a celebration of motherhood, fellowship and faith in a good Roma family.

The movie “Slobodní” (‘Free’) is a documentary about how a person can change the world, but he cannot do it on his own. It shows the story of a friendship between Silvo Krčméry and Vladimír Jukl, who played an important role in the development of the spiritual life and in the fight against totalitari-anism in Czechoslovakia.
